:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from JDA -- First in trilogy sets stage perfectly…. : What I enjoyed most about this first-of-three was the character and story development and imagery. I appreciate that characters are added at a pace allowing me to build my perception of each and imagine them as the tale progresses. The text brought alive locations in a way I could not only picture the settings but also get a ‘feel’ for each. There is a good balance between the elements of fantasy and underlying story - the magical and mystical are brought out in a subtle way that supports and doesn’t overshadow, giving just enough information to keep wanting to learn more. By the end I was ready for the next book to know if my perception (maybe suspicion??) of each main character is on target, how the events in motion progress, how the Deep started, who really is to blame and can it ever be reversed. The storyline is very descriptive, well written, and weaves into the world building and unique magic system really well. Each of the main characters are complex with their own purpose to help drive this story along. Overall this book is an exciting read that leaves you wondering what will happen next.
